Understanding Your CAT 2025 Scorecard

Your scorecard is not just a list of marks; it is a detailed breakdown of your performance across three sections:

  • VARC: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension.
  • DILR: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning.
  • QA: Quantitative Ability.

The scorecard will display your Sectional Scaled Score, Sectional Percentile, Total Scaled Score, and Overall Percentile.

What is the Normalization Process?

Since CAT is conducted in three slots with varying difficulty levels, IIMs use a Normalization Process. This ensures that no candidate is at a disadvantage due to a tougher paper. The scores are adjusted across slots to maintain equity, which eventually results in the “Scaled Score.”

Expected CAT 2025 Cut-offs for Top IIMs

Once the CAT Result 2025 is out, the focus shifts to the cut-offs. While IIMs do not release a “general cut-off” before the result, based on previous trends, here are the expected percentiles required for a call:

  • IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta (ABC): 99.5+ Percentile
  • IIM Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode: 97–99 Percentile
  • New IIMs (Udaipur, Ranchi, Trichy, etc.): 94–96 Percentile
  • Baby IIMs (Bodhgaya, Sambalpur, etc.): 90–92 Percentile

Note: Non-engineer candidates and those from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) may receive calls at lower percentiles depending on their academic profile.

What After CAT Result 2025?

Cracking the CAT is only the first hurdle. Here is what you should do next:

  1. IIM Shortlisting: Based on your percentile and profile (10th/12th/Graduation marks), IIMs will begin releasing their shortlists for the Writing Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds in January 2026.
  2. Apply to Non-IIMs: If your percentile is between 70-90, don’t lose hope. Top private B-schools like FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR, and IITs have their own selection criteria.
  3. Prepare for GD-PI-WAT: Start reading current affairs, brushing up on your graduation subjects, and practicing mock interviews immediately.
