Central Board of Secondary Education conducts the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) half-yearly. This exam is a national-level exam and is held to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in central government schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas) and other government schools in India. CTET previous year question papers help students to get through this exam quickly.
1. CTET Eligibility
a.) Age
- Minimum age – 18 years
- Maximum age – No upper age limit.
b.) Educational Qualifications

Primary Level (classes 1 to 5)
- Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- OR Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education as per NCTE 2002 Norms.
- OR Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
- OR Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
- OR Bachelor Degree Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from an NCTE-recognized institution. A mandatory six-month Bridge Course in Elementary Education recognized by NCTE is required within two years of appointment as a primary teacher.
- OR Post-Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade and passed or appearing in the final year of a three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. program.
Junior Level (classes 6 to 8)
- Bachelor’s Degree and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- OR At least 50% marks either in Graduation or in Post-Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).
- OR Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) program by NCTE Norms.
- OR Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
- OR Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed program.
- OR Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year B.Ed. / (B.Ed Special Education) program.
- OR Any candidate who has qualified in a B.Ed. Program recognized by the NCTE is eligible to appear in TET/CTET.
- OR A person pursuing any teacher education course recognized by the NCTE or the RCI specified in the NCTE Notification dated 23rd August 2010 is also qualified to appear in the TET/CTET.
- OR Post-Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade and passed or appearing in the final year of a three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed program.

3. Scheme of Exam
All questions in CTET will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), with four alternatives out of which one answer will be correct. Each carries one mark and there will be no negative marking.
There will be two papers of CTET.
- Paper 1 will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for Classes 1 to 5.
- Paper 2 will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for Classes 6 to 8
Note: A person who intends to be a teacher in both levels must appear in both papers.
